Description
Quaker parrot, also known as the Monk Parrot. The scene for this oil painting is Abbey Gardens Aviaries in Bury St Edmunds, home to several birds in their aviaries the walls of which are part of the ancient Abbey ruins. An unusual setting for a parakeet but I liked the bright splash of green against the old dark walls. The parrot is fluffed up a little to keep warm in an English climate but parakeets are surprisingly hardy – witness the flocks of ring neck parakeets over many parts of England!
The painting is framed in a heavy ebony coloured solid wooden tray frame, with a deep edge.
